BMW has already trademarked the M2 moniker, but we haven't heard much about it - until now. According to Auto Express, the coupe will be based on the 1-Series and have unique front and rear fascias. We can expect carbon fiber-reinforced plastics and high-performance brakes from the current M3. Two engines are being considered: a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with approximately 350 hp (261 kW / 355 PS) and an undisclosed tri-turbo unit with roughly the same performance but better fuel-efficiency. Regardless of what powertrain is selected, it will likely be paired to a new dual-clutch transmission which should offer rapid gear changes. The 2-Series isn't due until 2014, so expect the M variant to hit the streets in 2015 or 2016. Source: Auto Express
